Electricity woes | UK set to introduce blackouts

I am glad I have returned earlier from that mess called UK. 1 month in that country I was robbed my cell phone by 2 guys riding a scooter. I never expected a person riding a scooter could snatch a phone with such accuracy. Funny thing, I was never robbed in South Africa. Their load shedding will be horrible as it gets very very cold over there.

A former colleague left South Africa with his entire family, you call it emigration? As far as I know they left today or are leaving tomorrow. Our last conversation with him was about his frustration in South Africa, especially about the loadshedding. I'm not sure if they've arrived in the UK yet but damn this world can be cruel

I work at a nuclear power plant in a country you could call first world, we had a maintenance outage recently on one of our units, and have been experiencing issues with that unit ever since. So it’s supposed to be shut down again so the identified issues can be solved once and for all, and the executive high ups said no ways, everything possible has to be done to keep the unit running, because if the unit shuts down now in July or August when it’s hot and cooling is being used to the max, the country’s gonna experience blackouts and the government won’t be very happy with that. And I thought blackouts? Here😳? I thought this country had lots of excess power, what?

Things aren’t as rosy as we think in every country that’s not SA.

Four days without power means that food in fridges freezers are going to be spoiled. So even if we stock up on basic food and fill freezers or food prep in advance so it's a case of heating up rather than cooking from scratch we lose.it's crazy surely if it's planned blackouts then they can make them two days rather than four as most freezers can go 48 hours before spoilage are rampant.
