The Making of a Hand Drawn Map

I'm going to take you through the creative process to a closer look in what goes into a hand drawn map.

In this video, I draw a map of the Beaufort Inlet, NC where the infamous Blackbeard ran the Queen Anne's Revenge aground.

I am interested in learning how to draw my own hand-drawn maps for pleasure which is what attracted me to this video. I have to say the videographic performance you presented in displaying this map construction was excellent; kudos to you there. I hope to pick up tips for making my own maps from rewatching it, but I have one question if you don't mind answering, what is the paper that you make the map on. Have you treated it to look like that? I will be looking at your other videos to pick up other tips as well.

I’m a professional artist but never tackled maps. I found these beautiful vintage fishing maps that inspired me for some pieces for my living room but wanted notable areas from my life instead of the generic ones I found at an antique store. I didn’t even know where to begin till I found this.

How do you draw a map of a country using a reference? All I have on me is a graphic paper and a ruler. I want to draw a map of my country, but it looks so complicated I don't know where to start.
