Johnny Galecki in real life was too busy and just couldn't get in to film for Roseanne, thus they decided to address the very real reality of absent parents and how you can always say one thing but actions always mean more than words. David's character was always speaking great things but never there, so it's only natural for them to portray him in this light. I loved David's character, but this is the sad reality of many good people, they are human and make bad decisions or choices and it snowballs into affecting others, especially their children and that's how life plays out for them.

It kind of sucks in my opinion that they had to make him a deadbeat. Why couldn't they have written in they Darlene and David were divorced and he didn't get to see the kids much or something like that?

This show is bullshite..since Roseanne was betrayed "dying." And instead of coming up with a legit reason why David isn't around its easier to say "ahh he's a deadbeat dad" when the David character really wasn't. Just cast someone else as David. Why lance him like that..smh..same with DJ. What was dj's excuse anyone know? He's not on the show, hasn't been.. what he took off as well or died?😅🙄 Gobshite
