Watercolour Tip from PETER WOOLLEY: Line and Wash - Two Styles

There are several alternative ways of approaching Line and Wash. In this short video, Peter Woolley compares and contrasts two different methods. In the traditional, 'Urban Sketching' approach, the basic ink drawing comes first, while in the looser 'Fusion' method, it all kicks off with a loose, almost abstract watercolour wash...

I like both. It strikes me that the second technique may be more effective once one is more experienced with water color alone. Great content!

Many thanks for the video. Very useful. I note that you are laying down the line section over what appears to be a tracing of the buildings perspective. Please can you explain how this is done?

Loved this. I just did my first ever watercolour (at 67) a few days ago but I am drawn to this style. May I enquire what is the best paper for this technique?
Thank you so much for sharing this

Getting the building perspective is the hardest in my sketches, they always look flat
