Osmosis: Osmosis is a kind of passive transport. In osmosis, the water molecules move from low concentration to high concentration through the concentration gradient. Semi-permeable membrane is present, that can only flow in liquid direction. Water can always pass through osmosis because it's liquid.
Diffusion : Diffusion is a kind of passive transport where molecules move from high concentration to low concentration through concentration gradient. Example : Take a cup of warm water dip a tea bag, you will see at some time the colour of water changes, that means it diffuses.

Good description and animation. The label in the top right corner at the end is inaccurate though. The water molecule is the solvent and the sugar molecule is the solute.

Graphics are great but the red blue 3d like thing is very weird. Do we need 3d glasses to visualise this properly?

Does anybody actually know the mechanism for this? Where does the energy come from to elevate the water level?
