I REGRET buying the New PS5 Controller?! - DualSense Edge Review

With the DualSense Edge, Sony is the last of the big three platform holders to bring a pro controller to the market. Nintendo has one for Switch, Xbox's Elites are in their second iteration, and both of these exist alongside a plethora of third-party devices from Astro, Turtle Beach, and Scuf, among others. PlayStation's offering arrives in a packed marketplace, but the years of sitting on the sidelines may have worked to Sony's advantage.

The DualSense Edge incorporates years of learnings from its competitors to present something that ticks all the right boxes for a good high-end video game controller and even improves the user experience in some key ways. The end result is a pro controller that is iterative, but also looks and feels premium while bringing a customizability to the PlayStation gaming experience that hasn't existed before. The question is whether that is enough to justify the $200 price tag for you, and whether its limited battery life will suffice for your needs.

He doesn’t regret it because this video will make the money back.

This is a quality controller despite its limited battery capacity. I don't game over 4 hours in a session anyway so, for me, it's not a big deal. What is a big deal for me is I can assign the L3 and R3 "push" buttons on the sticks to the back buttons, which really saves my thumb joints! Your review forgot to mention (or show) how easy it is to replace the stick assemblies which is a key feature of this product. I already have one DualSense ruined by stick drift and this saves buying a whole new controller.

Being able to replace the stick modules alone makes it worth it in my opinion. And I have the lights dimmed and the haptics turned down. I don't play games longer than 5 hours at a time so there's really no downsides for me personally.

I love mine….

The customization, the feel of it, the adaptive triggers are so satisfying. My battery lasts for about 6.5-7 hours.

Nah the original dual sense does not get 10 hours. Not even close.

I just got one and the fact that they made it so you can easily swap out analogs that drift makes it worth the price to me. I've gone through 4 xbox elite controllers and you void the warranty if you want to fix the sticks yourself

This controller is crazy good imo.

1. Remapping the buttons and profiles through the Fn is very useful. Fn+O is MW2, Fn+X is Apex and Fn+Square is DayZ. You can also update the button mapping on the fly.

2. Stick profiles, for MW I’m not a high sens player. About 4/4 but I set my left stick to Action (snappy movement) and right stick to Precision for snappy looks but slows down when close to the target. The ability to configure these to the T is godly.

4. Mix & matching back buttons. Half-moon back button for quick inventory access without having to take your thumb off while jump on the paddle, game changer.

5. Most complaining about the battery won’t even worry about it because I’m willing to take a hit for what comes with the controller itself.

Ps5 w/ monitor set up.

Gotta admit, this is my first customizable controller ever. Once I customized it for MW2 I instantly noticed a much better experience in gameplay. Plus the trigger notches in the back I also tested out during each match. Overall I love it! 👌🏽

Not to mention, I’ll be the only one using the controller. 🤣🤣🤣

No money for dentist, but $200 for controller? OK.

4 hr battery life is unacceptable for any modern gaming console controller. Having said this ultimate flex is just buy two of them. One is charging while the other one is being played then swap. I don’t play games for a living and never done 8 hrs in a row so that would solve problem. But that’s over 400 dollars

I mean, 200 dollars 💸 for a controller was a kind of a giveaway it wasn't worth it 🤣

Happy i canceled my pre order on this thing at 320+ canadian dollars, that 4 hour battery life is straight up unacceptable I would have taken a better battery over some stupid travel case and cord lock any day. You can actually buy larger capacity batteries for the dualsense on Amazon and ali express as well as a back button install kit I made my own "pro" controller and get two days battery life and have the back buttons I wanted, as for fast triggers just swap r2 with r1 if you need it that bad or install a clicky trigger mod off Amazon

Budd from Budd's Controllers here, if you are going to use my battery photo please add credit or I'll ask for it to be removed.

For $200 I wish the battery life was longer like 10 hours.

I can't justify paying that much for shorter battery life, I bought the switch pro controller and I can count on my hands how many times I charged it in the past year, that's the best battery life for any controller I ever owned!

What a waste of money, being a gamer doesn’t mean you have to buy everything that comes out

When the base PS5 and Xbox Series controllers are so good why pay for a overpriced controller?

Those function buttons are smooth as hell. You can change the profile without having to wait for the menu. I love it. Even setting the precision on the analog sticks add up to a quicker response. Almost makes me feel like it's unfair....almost.

Your honesty is appreciated. I still want one, but will wait for a good sale. Had it had the same battery (at least) as the regular DS, and maybe an option for hall effect sensor sticks, I would've been more willing to pay $200 for it. An extra 2 back triggers (AKA paddles) might've also been nice. I own Xbox Elites (both versions) and love using the paddles, though most of the time 2 is maybe enough.
