Here in The Netherlands, where is base of the story, are the rumors that the ship burned to ash with everyone on board. They say it wreck sails further in bad weather and does completely nothing but sailing. Kinda creepy though

another variation of the story is that the captain wanted to get home early to see his daughter but he ran into a storm and cursed the Lord and his ship sunk and he was cursed to sail the tip of south America forever

I had a friend that told me he saw a strange glowing ship while he was on a cruise, I'm going to ask him more details

I read one account where passing sailors HAVE boarded the Dutchmen... and been allowed to leave! They tell of the crew asking them to pass on messages to loved ones... loved ones who've long-since died!

The ship is real. It is a dutch ship that actually whould sail to australia (new holland) but there was a storm and the ship did never arrive back. The name Flying Dutchman is bcs people thought the ship was flying on the ocians.

The flying Dutchmen is the most famous of the ghost ships. many will reference to spongebob though.
