How to Fill Out a Pink Slip When Buying or Selling a Car

Getting straight to the point of how to fill out a pink slip when buying or selling a car. It is very important to fill out the information properly so that there are no problems when you go to turn the title in to your nearest AAA or DMV or when you mail it in. Though it is easy to do, not everyone has bought or sold a car before so I want to make sure that you know what to do when the time comes. Maybe you just need a refresher if it has been a while since you last bought or sold a vehicle, well here you go and don't miss a step or you are going to create an unnecessary headache for yourself.

If you are selling the car there needs to be a total of 3 signatures and dates on the pink part of the title and 1 signature on the white part of the title (top portion that you turn in as a seller). As for the buyer, they need to have 1 signature and date on the pink part of the title where it asks for the buyers signature and they need to input their information (name and address information) on the white part of the title. If any of this information is not properly filled out it will not be accepted by the dmv.

I usually do the top part on the CA DMV website. Just make sure you have all the information listed on the top part because the website will ask you for the same information. Then print or save a copy for your records

At 1:24 you do NOT sign there unless you are a bank or lien holder who has an interest in the vehicle. I've bought and sold many vehicles and seller never signs there.
