The reason I'm back on the Sony system is these third-party lenses.

what we need now is 11mm, 16mm and 23mm from the likes of yongnuo, meike, ttartisans, and viltrox. that sigma 16mm is big and bulky, that lens totally needs to be updated

It's time for Sony to update their old CROP lenses or make new ones

Viltrox and Sigma are Killing the competition. Have a Wonderful Holiday Season Arthur and Your Family. Cheers!

I recently bought the sigma 30mm 1.4. If this lens would have been released before I would have definitely considered it. Viltrox is killing it. Would love to see a comparison against the sigma. Great content as always !

IMO the good Sony 35mm is the FE version. That is one hell of a great lens!

Excellent vid, thanks. The Viltrox is very tempting but for a 'shaky hands' old guy like me using an A6300 the Sony with OSS is a better option. Plus, I can find a good pre-loved one for about the same price as a new Viltrox. For me the Sony is an easy choice. Thanks for posting.

Absolutely right. I love my 27mm f1.2 from viltrox. It is razor sharp but a bit on the heavy side.

Such a good lens for such a good price is fantastic! There is one issue I have. Sigma got us here, where we are today. Their DC DN lens line up made Sony APS-C attractive and affordable, and gave many of us amazing glas for our photography and video efforts. Sigma made the lenses, Sony made the bodies. Now Viltrox is aggressively underprincing Sigma, and there's a fair chance that they might drive Sigma out of the APS-C marked in terms of new lens releases. And that is not good, for any of us enthusiasts.

Whao! That's actually dramatic. I thought the difference was going to be miniscule.

Sony SEL35F18 is one of my first favorite lenses as well,
I pair it with my old Sony NEX-5N and love it a lot.

Sold it a few months ago on eBay, after getting a few new modern lenses, I don't use it a lot anymore. I will miss you buddy 😇

I use the Sony 35/1.8 OSS. It's sharp enough for me, but it's the autofocus performance in low light and at night that will keep it in my kit for years to come.

This + any old A6XXX makes a perfect carry around combo. Unbelievable value.

If it weren't for my Sigma 30mm, i would have purchased this in a heartbeat. Viltrox really needs to make a zoom lens, because as a hobbyist photographer, I can't justify the price of zoom lenses at the moment.

I'm hesitant to buy a Viltrox lens after picking up the 23mm a couple years ago. The internals just stopped working I lost the ability to use manual focus and autofocus wouldn't always land. Viltrox customer support was no help at all, and neither was Adorama. That lens was more expensive at $250. However, when I used it, it was fantastic, especially at f1.4, boosting the low-light capabilities of my APSC cameras. I would love to have this focal length and leave it on my Sony a6400 for photos., especiallyat this price point. However, I have long-term quality control concerns with Viltrox. That is why I have picked up their pro line, either. But $150 is just tempting enough to try again.

I would get the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens, which has a better built quality and a better optical image quality, also I like the focal length 30mm more than 35mm for the APSC format.

Both the Sony 35mm 1.8 and the Sony 50mm 1.8 are not that sharp wide open. But stepped down to the range between 2.8 and 5.6 they are both incredibly sharp. I don't have the lens from Viltrox, but always comparing lenses at the largest aperture doesn't necessarily always indicate which lens is best. See also the videos from Frost about the two old Sony lenses above.

I bought the Viltrox 56 f1.7 after researching, and seeing your video. Was my first lens for my A6100 after the kit lens I got with it.
SO impressed and thankful for your review of that as well as it helped in my decision making. Currently saving up for something like the Tamron 17-70 2.8, or the wider sigma 16mm f1.4. But when Viltrox releases a ~16mm f1.7 in 2025 (They have to, to complete the trio, right?) I will be ALL OVER that lens. Especially if it comes at a price point similar to these other two lenses (sub $200). It's wild!
