Building Cost Of A Luxury Cabin In Costa Rica

I am answering the most common question I got when I posted a super cut of this build on Instagram which was how much did it cost. The build was done is the southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica at the start of 2023.

Hi Sasha - well done! I strongly encourage you to add horizontal concrete "beams" in the ground that tie into the concrete pilings supporting your house. I used a similar construction method in similar terrain and each corner of my house is subsiding at different rates. This causes racking which puts great stress on the structure. Another thing to consider on your next build is ensuring the upper part of the house does not come into physical contact with the concrete bodega structure below. By building on pilings, it is easier to protect your house from termites and ants because regular visual inspection is a snap. When you have a concrete structure (bodega, bath house) contacting a structure on pilings, you make it difficult to inspect for ants and termites. And it becomes far more difficult to stop them once they find your house.
