I genuinely think that your first soulsborne game will be your favorite, mine was Bloodborne and it's not only my favorite soulsborne game but my favorite game of all time.

Sekiro’s combat could potentially change your opinion. Really looking forward to the day you hunt the platinum on that masterpiece!

My first souls game was elden ring but I love dark souls 3 the most because of the bosses and just how beautiful yet depressing the environment is

Nah. My first was Demon Souls, last was Elden Ring, yet Bloodborne reigns supreme.

There’s an argument to be made as far as performance goes since Bloodborne is locked at 30 on older hardware, but the actual content itself? Unrivaled.

DS3 is my second after ER. Although it isn't perfectly linear, the semi-linearity of it makes it SO much easier to get through blind. The lower graphic fidelity and less diverse color palette also make the boss animations way easier to understand. There's less happening on screen, fewer particle effects, etc, and it's much easier to discern the telegraphs and timing windows.

I know people criticized ER because you could go wherever and grab powerful items early. That is definitely true, but if you were like me, you had 0 idea to even think of that and had no idea where to go. I got so lost and nearly quit, but I used a guide to get me on the right path. Once I was more comfortable, I would explore/fight ahead and use it to make sure i didn't miss anything. In DS3, I have had no issue going in blind, which is great.

DS2, man. That was my first love. You never forget your first souls game.

I have a different experience. Elden ring is my first souls game and I went back and played them all and my personal favorite is actually dark souls 1. Dark souls 1 immersion is amazing. And I think going into a new souls game and comparing it to Elden ring is the wrong way to go about it. You have to kinda throw everything you know about previous souls game and get yourself immersed then you’ll see the beauty of previous souls game. Elden doesn’t even make it to my top 3 now

I played Elden Ring as my first souls game and I have loved playing all of the backlog, finished DS1, DS2, Sekiro, and am currently beating the dlc before playing DS3

I started with Elden Ring. Still thought Bloodbourne was incredible. Knew not to expect a massive open world game.

Great combat mechanics, great weapons, great lore/universe.

In my mind, peak FromSoft was their run from 2015-2019. Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro in those 4 years. Bloodborne is my personal favorite it just oozes style and has some great weapons. It’s not the hardest but it is the most fun. Dark Souls 3 has the best coop. Sekiro has the best combat. I would place Elden Ring below all 3 of these. Older FS level design was superior. Best part of ER are the legacy dungeons. The older games are just those parts.

For me my first souls game was Sekiro lol. Very different from any of the other souls games where you can choose your build

I did DS2, Bloodborne, Demons Souls Remake, DS1, DS3, doing Sekiro now and Elden Ring next

I think we should take it like this: view the prior games as a monumental stepping stone towards Elden Ring, e.g. the fast paced combat of bloodborne, the verticality and fluidity of sekiro etc.

In that way, I view the previous games as part of what have made my ER experience so enjoyable

My first one was DS3. Second is Bloodborne now, am at the DLC so almost finished it. Both are truly amazing games, love them. Havent played Elden Ring yet, but it will for sure probably be next in line.

ER is the one that has to become Bloodborne caliber, not the other way around

Well said bro. Bloodborne and DS3 came after elden ring for me too, so I feel ya. Despite at first being bummed out neither are really open world, I was blown away by the level design. I loved it everytime I'd see a door or unreachable ladder, play for a day and a half, then pop out said door or kick down said ladder and I'd be where I started. So cool how everything is so connected. Their amazing level design made me not really care it wasn't as open world as ER.

I remember seeing screenshots and short trailers for Dark Souls, didn’t play Demon Souls, and I loved the dark gothic medieval look it had, and just had to get it. I did some reading about how it was a difficult game but the fanbase was so dedicated. I start playing and the skeletons in the starting area were beating the shit out of me and I’m like why the fuck can’t I kill them??! lol. God I love these games

My personal order would be DS1, ER, DS2, DS3. DS1’s level design and atmosphere just propel it above everything for me, though I do think a faster paced, ER or DS3 style remake could be interesting.
