Any oil is dark by it's "half-life."

The first thing I noticed about Speed Diagnostix oil analysis reports were the level of detail versus Blackstone Labs. Lake explains what each additives purpose is and what elements cause wear. I felt that Blackstone's reports were vague in that respect. Lake Speed Jr brings a lot of knowledge to the table when it comes to motor oil analysis. He helped develop Joe Gibbs Racing Oil and I believe he works with Total Seal Piston Rings.

A very big thanks is in order to both you Rich and Lake Speed Jr for taking the time to share knowledge of motor oils. It is much appreciated! Whether one buys their motor oil at Walmart or one of the many auto parts stores, you are confronted with a myriad of differing brands and various formulas. It's like when you go to the breakfast cereal isle at the grocery store. Back in the day there were only a handful of motor oils and formulas. Since the advent of synthetics it's enough to make your head spin when you go to purchase oil. The knowledge you share Rich is a big help in narrowing down the multiple choices and allows the average citizen with a headache to make an informed purchase.

Very knowledgeable, how is it compared to Pennzoil ultra Platinum? Better or worse?

Motor Oil Geek YouTube page is very informative when it comes to oil knowledge. Glad you have them a shoutout Rich. Thank you for running these oils tested and making the video. Thank you for explaining oxidation value in simple terms, I’m just learning about what oxidation value demonstrates.

so why run 5w-20 over 0w-20 if they are both the same thickness when warmed up? the 0w is a better cold start with less wear right?

ANY CHANCE this is better than the Valvoline Exteneded Protection High Mileage?

I’m so confused I’m going to send the Msds’s and my oil analysis to lake speed jr. Shell’s msds’s show Quaker State having the GTL base. I have an oil sample from Cashman that shows Quaker State 0w-20 oxidation value at 12.

I just purchased a used 2016 F150 5.0 with a documented OCI of 5K at the Ford dealer where it was purchased. Now I'm trying to decide which oil to use and at what OCI: Valvoline Restore and Protect, Valvoline High Mileage Full Synthetic, or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. This will not be a daily driver, so six months will probably be the reason to change versus mileage.

Hey Boss Man,
Have you received the analysis of the Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W-30 yet? If yes, please let us know. I'm super curious to know if this new product is actually worth the money for my 2003 Toyota Tundra V8 with 328, 500+ miles on the original engine (and original transmission also).
Thanks for all the informative evaluations & information, sir!

Really appreciate your channel.
I've learned a ton about motor oil and BG product line...Toyota 1nzfe with 240k. Recently started burning about 3/4 of a quart per 4k. Did the BG EPR yesterday and all I can say is wow! Super smooth, quite and peppy.

Running Valvoline 5-30 protect and restore. See if it improves my situation...Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Hey Rich, So is "Restore and Protect" just rebranded " Extended Protection"? Valvoline didn't seem to give a number like Castrol or Mobil with 10k/20k intervals, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same great oil with a new name.
