Biden isn't going anywhere for now | Ian Bremmer | Quick Take

What's going to happen at least for the near term, is that Biden isn't going anywhere. He would have to decide to stand down. He certainly is not prepared to do that. His team would have to tell him strongly that they feel like he's making a mistake. They're not prepared to do that, either. And this is something we've seen on a few occasions.

Ian Bremmer's Quick Take: Hi, everybody. Ian Bremmer here and a Quick Take to kick off your week. The topic everyone is discussing, of course, is what is the state of play in the US election for President Biden's reelection campaign in particular? What's going to happen? What are the outcomes?

Well, what's going to happen at least for the near term, is that Biden isn't going anywhere. He would have to decide to stand down. He certainly is not prepared to do that. His team would have to tell him strongly that they feel like he's making a mistake. They're not prepared to do that, either. And this is something we've seen on a few occasions. Remember, Biden has been serving at high levels in Foreign Office for decades as vice president for eight years, in addition to president for almost four and senator including running the Foreign Relations Committee for decades and decades. And so the people around him, they are very loyal. They have a lot of experience. And they've been on and committed to Team Biden for a very long time. They absolutely are willing to give him advice. And they execute as well as they can, on his directives. But they are very unwilling to challenge him, particularly when he feels strongly about an outcome.

And we've seen this play out on Russia-Ukraine, Biden was unwilling to talk about moving towards a negotiated settlement as the Ukrainians were doing better and better. They were kicking it down the road. They weren't having the difficult decision because no one was willing to really challenge it. And then the situation for the Ukrainians started getting worse, and it was “they'll manage reasonably well,” the tactical on the day to day. And you have a strong coalition that the Americans are leading. But at no point are you making the big sudden change. It's very cautious. It's very conservative. and it tends to kick the can on big, controversial potential decisions.

I'm in the anger phase, and it's not at MAGA this time. The office isn't a prize, it's a sacred trust.

Imagine putting your ego first before country, like another guy we know.

You left someone importanrt out: his staff and advisors lose their jobs if he withdraws. Hardly patriotic to give advice based on that.

This is like watching the train crash - and it would have been easy to stop it. Absolutely irresponsible.

I watched 5 minutes of the debate and turned it off. He no longer has a memory capacity to take care of a dog let alone the usa. It was disgraceful how we could put the hands of the country in a man who clearly belongs in a nursing home. Even the democrats i know all said he unfit for the position

I am disgusted by team Biden. I feel betrayed and gaslit. I can’t believe we’re handing Trump the presidency. This is so disgusting. The ironic thing is that Biden seems to be doing this for his ego, but when he loses to Trump and brings the party down with him, his legacy will be irrepairably tarnished. And that’s a shame considering his first (and what is likely to be his only) term was one of the best in history.

Experience doesn't matter if you have dementia.
The President must be fully functional, Ian!

Just described everything I hate about Ds. Trying to be everything to everyone at once and failing on all accounts.

How bad does this have to get before what is obviously needed to be done gets done? Everyone on the left, including center left, except for Biden's "inner circle" is clamoring for Biden to step down. Who is Biden representing? Himself or the country and the needs of the people?

How do he and his ppl imagine he can still win? This isn’t about loyalty to Biden. It’s about the future of our country. Those ppl need to face reality and get on with a responsible and face saving end.

I consider myself an independent even though I have always ended up voting democrat. If the Democrats insist on going forward with Biden my vote is going to RFK Jr. If party leadership doesn’t have the will or to do what is necessary or the courage to enact the 25th amendment, they have only themselves to blame if the unthinkable happens in November.

I am a Dem and voted blue for ever…however Biden NEEDS to step down. I am getting very upset with my party and top Dem. enablers and Dem. Media. I am so turned off by all of it. We have a roster of great candidates who have already run for President and have an infrastructure in place. I would love our party to get a real fighter with sharp thinking to step up. This is a disaster…And I love the guy but stepping down now would be putting country before party. I would love Gretchen Whitmer to run. I worry about Gavin Newsome due to some of his policies and past positions but he is a good fighter.

THE SCARIEST PART: It wasn’t just the American people who watched the debate: The leaders of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea watched it as well. What do you think THEY are thinking (and may DO) based on what THEY saw?

Any strong charismatic articulate candidate with a hopeful vision of America's future would sweep Trump into history's dust bin

It's not just his age and some "bad days". He shows symptoms of Parkinsons: low voice, incoherency, confucion, slow movements, no facial mimic, the way he walks. This is only getting worse.
