Bernie Sanders compares processed food industry to tobacco industry

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders says he sees the food industry that makes processed foods akin to the tobacco industry, stipulating there needs to be more oversight on ultra-processed foods being sold to Americans. I feel that I have been systematically hoodwinked all of my life into eating these highly processed foods. Which is why at this time in my life I am making more of an effort to PAY ATTENTION to food labels and what's actually IN the food I'm eating and educating myself more on nutrition. I do NOT listen anymore to the dogwhistles of politicians or the FDA. I do my own research and make my own choices based on what makes sense to ME.

I did the same thing. Canceled all the processed foods. So many of my symptoms disappeared and I never felt better. I also lost weight. But it was the aches and pains and headaches disappearing that helped me to see what not eating nutrients were doing to my aging body. Cause when u fill up w the processed foods, there’s no space for the wholesome foods/nutrients to support ur immune system

For someone who doesn't smoke and never has smoked, cigarettes smell and taste disgusting. The same thing happens when you switch to whole foods and nominally processed foods. After a few months, the ultra processed stuff tastes awful. Unfortunately, whole foods and minimally processed foods are more expensive and usually take a lot longer to prepare as a meal. So, super busy parents and people who have tight budgets often don't have much of a choice when it comes to making choices related to ultra processed foods.

Foods that are pushed for Taste or color rather than health and physical needs should have a warning label.

It is not just obesity either, there are a lot of normal weight people with health issues and pain due to low quality of the food they are eating. Also, it is not just cookies and candy. Ultraprocessed ingredients are also in things that we don't suspect first like bread, deli meat, salad dressings etc.

Usually commercials gets peoples attention to consume processed foods with the thought that it wont harm your health just because its in a commercial and famous people are pretending to consume the product being advertised so that product can seem safe for consumption

Bernie is right, why is it that so many think a McDonald's meal is a "good meal"? It's freaking cardboard!! You may as well eat the carton it came in, for all the "nutrition" in a McDonald's.
