S. N. Goenka was an Indian teacher of Vipassana meditation.
He became an influential teacher and played an important role in
establishing non-commercial Vipassana meditation centres
globally.

The courses are entirely free of charge, including all food and
accommodation. All funding is provided by voluntary donations
from former students who wish to pass on the benefits of the
technique.

Today, the course are held at 341 locations in 94 countries.
Goenka trained about 1,300 assistant teachers to conduct courses,
and about 120,000 students attend them each year.

Upon Goenka's death, Jack Kornfield, the noted American teacher
wrote:

"In every generation, there are a few visionary and profound masters
who illuminate the world. Like the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh,
Goenka was one of the greats of our time. He was an inspiration and
teacher for Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, and many other western
spiritual leaders."

Here, Goenka gives a brief introduction to Vipassana meditation.
