Hey! I'm Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is deeply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.

When I was 18, I was signed to a major label (dropped 6 months later) and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!

I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my YouTube channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, YouTube channel and I work directly with labels internationally alongside owning a live agency and management company.

Personally as an independent artist, I would recommend Tuesday - Thursday for the release date! There are some Spotify playlists that rotate on a Tuesday - Thursday. Also, you can avoid the heavy competition on Friday. Some of your friends or competitors in your region maybe releasing on Friday. Also, like Damian said, Friday is a terrible day to release music.

I think the toughest thing has been getting great engagement on Instagram, comments/shares, all that stuff, but transferring them to different platforms.

My biggest issue is, I don't really have any value to give except for the music itself.

I believe this is because most social platforms aren't really the right venue for me; as my primary project is more melancholy, serious, and mystique. And that's seeming to be a very difficult style to promote and "give value".

I look at the people who've done similar things, but the major difference is- mostly all of them existed in or before the "MySpace" days. They weren't connected the same way we are now; so they were able to kinda play into that "mystery" more... Admittedly now though, it seems like the only way to achieve a following is to be glued to social media and make yourself into a "influencer-style" personality.
