Deployment of North Korean troops in Russia ‘a definite sign of Putin’s weakness’ | DW News

Ukraine says that North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia's western Kursk region -- to back up Russian troops on the war's frontline. That's according to Ukraine's military intelligence service. Kursk is where Ukrainian forces staged a cross-border incursion into Russian territory back in August, seizing a chunk of territory. This comes as Russian lawmakers ratified a defense treaty with North Korea that pledges 'mutual assistance' if either country is attacked.

Earlier on Thursday President Vladimir Putin on Thursday did not deny the presence of North Korean troops in Russia. The US said 3,000 North Korean troops are in Russia -- and has described the deployment as 'very serious.'

DW spoke with John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor in Washington. Further analysis from Mikhail Alexeev, Russian expert at San Diego State University, and we spoke with Aidan Foster Carter of Leeds University on what’s in it for North Korea.

am pretty sure the NK troops are there to learn battle field tactics not to boost Russian forces.

So, deployment of NATO in support of US in Afghanistan is sign of weakness as well? How about Libya, Syria, Iraq?

So over 30 countries failing to defeat one country is considered strength.

When foreign legion fight for ukraine, it called international support.
When foreign legion fight for russia, its a sign of rusian manpower issues.

Russia is losing over 1000 soldiers a day. So will this be the rate of attrition of North Korean troops? So 3000 troops will last 3 days?

Russia is gaining grounds day by day and you say they're desperate.

Russia is big and strong but they have to resort to North Korean peasants to fight their war. LOL.

NK are just there for the food. Look how tiny they are.

I think all journalists ask same questions against Russia, and encourage answers against Russia.
I never see journalists asking questions like how weak is Ukraine and begging every day for everything, how much west is involved in this proxy war ?

These so called experts dont seem to know much about the reality on battlefield. They spend too much time toying with ideas in their heads instead of analysing the real facts on the ground

Compared to Ukraine, Russia is not in trouble. No desperation in deed.

One thing that i struggle to understand…. If nato countries can send weapons and train ukraine soldiers than why its big deal if russia asking from few handful countries?
Another thing is that even when russia is making gain in ukraine, how western media always talk abt russian defeat, desperation, soldier loss etc when they must be reporting on ukraine losses as they are getting pushed back

You can say what you want, but Russia has allies. North Korea sent 6 million artillery shells, ballistic missiles and some volunteers (although they won"t last long). Iran sent drones and balistic missiles. Where are all Ukrainian allies?!? You can only hear: "We stand with Ukraine" BS from Kirby and the rest...bla bla bla

They dont know even know why there are there lol. Obviously 3k or or even 13 isn't gonna make any difference on the battlefield. They are probably there for training.
