Massad Ayoob's Practical Cargo Pants. Unloading Every Day Carry Pants Pockets - Critical Mas Ep78

Massad Ayoob explores the functionality of cargo pants, or as he calls them, practical pants. Contrary to a popular theory about certain clothing making individuals a target in dangerous situations, Massad debunks it and emphasizes the utility of cargo pants for those who carry guns and various equipment. Drawing from his experience and the input of experts, Massad discusses the features of tactical pants, such as generous belt loops, strategically placed pockets, and loose cuts for comfort and ease of movement. He delves into the history of these pants and recommends the 511 brand. Mas provides a detailed walkthrough of the pockets and shares how they can accommodate essential items like flashlights, spare ammunition, and personal effects. Whether you're a gun enthusiast, outdoorsman, or simply someone looking for functional pants, this video offers valuable insights. Join Mas as he combines practicality with style, showcasing the versatility of cargo pants for everyday use and potentially life-saving situations.

Massad would like to correct a mistake he made in the video at 10:20 when he mentions the Surefire Wedge. "it's a Streamlight Wedge. The mistake is due to me having carried a SureFire as a primary for ages and only recently switched to the Wedge, a Streamlight product."

Critical Mas(s) with Massad Ayoob is a show that provides expert analysis over a wide range of contemporaneous topics related to civilian and law enforcement self-defense, the use of force, and second amendment issues, provided by a renowned and established author with a career spanning decades in training law enforcement officers and the public at large, who is frequently called upon to provide expert witness testimony.

ABOUT MASSAD AYOOB:
Massad Ayoob has been handgun editor of GUNS magazine and law enforcement columnist for AMERICAN HANDGUNNER since the 1970s and has published thousands of articles in gun magazines, martial arts publications, and law enforcement journals. He is the author of some twenty books on firearms, self-defense, and related topics, including “In the Gravest Extreme” and “Deadly Force,” widely considered to be authoritative texts on the topic of the use of lethal force.

The winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year Award in 1998, Mas has won several state and regional handgun shooting championships. Ayoob was the first person to earn the title of Five Gun Master in the International Defensive Pistol Association. He is the current President of the Second Amendment Foundation. He served 19 years as chair of the Firearms Committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and several years as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. In addition to teaching for those groups, he has also taught
for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and the International Homicide Investigators seminars.

Mas has received judicial recognition as an expert witness for the courts in weapons and shooting cases since 1979, and served as a fully sworn and empowered, part-time police officer for 43 years, mostly at supervisor rank. Ayoob founded the Lethal Force Institute in 1981 and served as its director until 2009, and now trains through Massad Ayoob Group. He has
appeared on CLE-TV delivering continuing legal education for attorneys, through the American Law Institute and American Bar Association, and has been retained to train attorneys to handle deadly force cases through the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. Ayoob served for two
years as co-vice chair of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also appeared in each episode of Personal Defense TV (Sportsman’s Channel).

I was waiting for a sandwich (and the inevitable back-up sandwich) to come out. The snail joke was unexpected.

That was hilarious. He doesn't need an exercise routine, he carries 20lbs of weight everywhere he goes. If I ever find myself in a foxhole, Mas is the guy I want to be with.

I started laughing after the second pocket dump. You are the best sir. Your snail joke proved it! I love you man! Keep doing what you do.

Just a note to add to remind people that the 5.11 pants roots are rock climbing. The pants were originally invented and made by a man called Royal Robbins for rock climbing. I bought my first pair at REI in Seattle. 5.11 refers to the hardest climb in rock climbing. Their first tactical use was when the FBI stood up their hostage rescue team when they found their great utility for use. I still have a pair of the originals.

I wear 5.11 pants almost everyday. They are not only practical but they are the most comfortable pants I’ve ever worn.

I’m 70 and just started wearing cargo pants a year ago. Where have they been all my life?!! And let’s not forget about cargo shorts for the hot summers. While I don’t carry as much gear as you Massad, I do appreciate the capability to do so especially pocket carrying a snub nose revolver. A couple of months ago I ran across some cargo pants that are fleece lined, wonderful to wear in the colder months!👍👍

I once went to a corporate event wearing cargo pants, just because of the practicality of carrying all my stuff in pockets instead of in a man purse or back pack.
Well, wouldnt you think, the under cover rookie security lady gave me the look as if she thought I was a potential "active shooter" (Those guys have been known to be kitted out with cargo pants). Sometime the look on someones face says a thousand words. So, just to make her at ease, I said hello and introduced myself. She about dropped her jaw to the floor because she knew I knew that she had been mistaken.

I hope he carries spare cargo pants in one of the pockets ;-)

Your wallet comment reminded me. When i started having hip issues the orthopedist, after figuring out my right side was slightly compressed, told me absolutely nothing in back pockets, especially while driving.

I've been wearing cargo pants for years. They are so very useful for carrying the things that I use constantly. They are very comfortable as well. I don't get certain parts of my anatomy pinched as well.

I have 3 pairs of 5.11 Taclite Pro Pants and plan on buying more. Outstanding product! They're also moisture repellent which wasn't mentioned. Very well constructed, they should last for years. I'm an old guy too, 60, so I don't give a crap about being stylish with skinny jeans, I want to be able to carry stuff I need, and be comfortable doing it. Damn good pants!

Been wearing multi pocket shirts & pants since I 214d in '70. Got used to carrying whatever I needed on me.

I have been a fan of the Wrangler Ranger cargo pants for years. They are set up pretty nice and are quite rugged for 32 bucks at Wally world. I see the 5.11 are little more than twice as much, but they seem to have even more functionality, plus they look more comfortable. Probably worth a try.

I love my cargo pants and cargo shorts. That’s all I wear. Perfect for carrying everything on you that a guy needs. The brand I currently like are the Duluth trading Company Flex Fire Hose work pants. Thanks Paul Harrell for the recommendation!

I have been wearing cargo pants and shorts since I was a little kid, so over 40 years at this point! 5.11’s are my go to pants because they last longer than any other brand that I have tried.

I was at the supermarket the other day when I saw an old dude wearing the "shoot me first" vest with some 5.11 cargo pants and a Magellan shirt. I immediately went up to him and complimented his style, we got to talking about some of Mas's books. The only thing dangerous about this style is that it is dangerously based.
