Rick, you are a big star. Hire someone to help you lose the big belly. Great episode. I visited Savannah often when I was stationed in SC at a Marine Air Station.

I know someone who has one of those refrigerators, it still works. I can't believe it cost 4800 dollars to restore it, let alone it's worth 10 thousand restored.

They were not massively inefficient. Actually they were more efficient than a modern fridge. I just got one of these to put in my kitchen but it's far from my first vintage fridge. I paid about $200 for mine in good condition. Needs rewiring and I already replaced the door seal but there's no way it would be worth $10, 000. Mine is a CK-3 model (1935-1938, extra large single door size [they made 2, 3, 4 door commercial ones], sulfur dioxide refrigerant, scotch yoke compressor). This one is a model DR-1 or DR-2 (first model, small or medium size, sulfur dioxide refrigerant). It is from around 1927-1932. There was also the model CA-1 and 2 (1933-1934, methyl formate refrigerant, rotary compressor, only came in sizes 1 and 2). They are wonderful fridges and will run forever. I can hear mine running in the kitchen as I type this.

If Rick ever gave me the "...or you guys can pick it back up and put it back in your car cause it probably weighs about 400 pounds" speech I'd flip him the bird so fast it would make his head spin.

Love seeing old things become new again and people taking the time to restore. Amazing transformations. Amazon car hop trays.
