Cut my last CC ($300 limit) seven years ago, paid off the house three years ago, made my last $300 car payment Friday. On $37, 000/year I'M DEBT FREE! Car payments will be diverted to investments.

I grew up in a basement apartment.. Mom, Dad and three kids. When I was 11 years old, my dad built us a house. Bigger than the apartment, but nothing fancy. People now want it all and live above their means.

Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.

I strongly agree with downsizing to have the wife stay at home during those years. I grew up with a stay at home mom and I wouldn't have traded that for a better house to live in. Much better to have a parent at home to bring up the kids if possible.

I live by, I don't lend money unless I'm writing it off as never getting it back. Then even if their "intention" is to repay me, it won't hurt me because it is no longer accounted for.

This is why I like the move in silence “movement”. How did her uncle know she had that money? When you live in a super dysfunctional family and you want to get ahead, one way of doing that is keeping your plans to yourself.

I really agree, don't listen to broke people tell you what to do with money! I did that years ago, big mistake:(

Don’t ever lend any money you are going to be needing down the road. Lend money only if you are ok to part away with, if you get it back it is a win, if you don’t then the thing you lose is trust on that person.

1:13:00 "Very little debt, just $50k"
Dude... I would consider that swimming in debt since it's not his mortgage.

My dad did this to me and my mom forced him to pay me back. She never got her money back. I just now got out of debt. It took many years.

He actually did this to her when she was 18 as it was a year and a half ago. Which makes this so, so, so, much worse.

The key to giving to anyone is to never expect it back.

I have a manufactured home and I love that I am almost done paying it off. I have 8 acres with a view and 600 a month for a 4 bedroom home. In my area, where its very agricultural, they can go for 200, 000 with the land. I don't regret my investment when I see my friends with big mortgages that stress them out.

Yeah that happened to me also when I was also 21 years old and living at home....with my father borrowing money from me for the mortgage, and I was living at home and going to school (California is expensive). He bullied me into saying "Well you want to live here don't YOU!" "You have to take care of family!" (He said the same thing). I was being bullied and let him borrow it. I was able to drive my mom's car during the summer while I was waiting on buying a car....I never got that cash back... BUT eventually I forced him to co-sign for a car bought at the end of the summer (I had no credit at the time). It was quickly when I learned that my childhood image of my father was NOT the same as an adult. He is not great at honoring his word with finances. He is an impulsive person. Ever since then I kept EVERTHING separate... no joint car insurance, no joint phone bills... nothing.
