Japan did the smart thing and released buckets of bricks with the core rangers as figures, I’m surprised they even did that when the line stopped in the states.

But now I’m even more curious what would’ve happened if they still kept the brick built rangers theme going with Hasbro.

I remember getting the Power Rangers Samurai Megazoid TWICE because the pieces were so easy to fall apart and be lost. My mom glued the second one together yet I can’t find it anywhere except the figures. Thanks for reminding me of this.

Japan had a ton of exclusive sets not just limited to Super Sentai but also Kamen Rider, and anime like Gundam and One Piece

Kamen Rider also had MegaBloks releases. Super Sentai releases also had villains which were not released in America.

From what I was told years ago by an Imaginext rep at Power Morphicon, Bandai had an exclusive patent on combining zords. So when Imaginext got the Power Rangers license, they could manufacture zords and Megazords, but their zords legally couldn’t combine together to make a Megazord. If that patent extended to building toys, Mega Bloks legally couldn't do that either.

You're absolutely right that it's stupid they rarely put out villains.

I remember passing on the PR sets because they looked cheap and the Bandai offering looked more appealing. However, I bought the shit out of the Halo sets. The minifigs were great, and I think there weren't really any cheap Halo toys at that price point.

I'd honestly love to see Lego get the Power Rangers license and I actually came up with some ideas for Lego Power Rangers

- Have large expensive sets based off iconic locations from the series (like the juice bar, Rita's palace and the command centre)

- The Megazords can be construction figures and each one can come with extra pieces so if you wanted you can take them apart and build the individual Zords

- Have some sets based off iconic episodes from the franchise (like Countdown to Destruction and Forever Red)

- The 4+ sets can be things like vehicles (like the thunder cycles from MMPR S3, the go-karts from Turbo or the galaxy gliders from In Space)

- Budget sets can be things like a Ranger vs monster battle (like Jason vs Pudgy Pig or Billy vs Eye Guy)

I used to have a Mega Bloks set based on the Power Rangers Samurai series, and I could’ve sworn I mistook it for LEGO, because the Minifigs look nothing like the regular Mega Bloks figures.


Kinda sad how Mega Bloks has fallen into obscurity. It used to be LEGO’s longtime rival, but by the late 2010s, and early 2020s, it basically became dead.

Haven’t seen the video yet but I passed on mega bloks power rangers cus it was that LEGO knock off look instead of the micro action figure look they did with halo and their later marvel stuff
