There's the one detail missed about the rpg.
When the nose of the rocket strikes a target it does detonate the payload but there are two different types of payload.
•HE (High Explosive) are less common but used for light target like cars and infantry to just blow up whatever it hits.
•HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) is more often what rounds are associated with the RPGs. These rounds, when ignited, concentrate it into a single point like a needle. This makes it penetrate thick armor and destructive whomever was on the other side with molten slag, fire, and force.
Bonus: that's also why an effective defense to heat rounds is a piece of wood. HEATs can easily be prematurely detonated which prevents it's fiery infection.

You can see in the video. That it's not just an explosion. The explosion is channeled. So that it sends a hot jet of copper metal. This is how it's able to penetrate thick metal armor.

The rpg warhead is what is called a hollow or shaped charged warhead. It has a hollow cone with a copper liner and then explosives on the back of the copper so when it touches an object the explosives go off and deforms the copper liner into a be dry fast jet of metal that can penetrate very thick armour(if that armour is just plain steel armour or other armour made out of a solid plate)
