Kingfish Live bait balloon rig to stop polluting the ocean.

How to stop polluting the ocean with balloons when live bait fishing for kingfish. It's very common to rig a balloon on a live bait set up using kahawai for live bait when targeting kingfish. When the kingfish hits the kahawai, the line to the balloon snaps and floats away to pollute the ocean. I have been thinking about this for a while as it becomes obvious too much plastic enters the sea. I am trialling this set up and will gives updates after I've had a go with it but it is a sound approach to keeping your balloon attached but still work.

Nice idea Scott. I thought the balloon would just be pulled under the surface when a kingy attacks. Will give your idea a go. Also try a sliding float

try using a float rig system . I use a weighted polystyrene float attached to 100ld leader . and a size 10 live bait hook. just above the weighted float is a small bead to prevent the float from hitting the main swivel. which is a 90kg snap lock swivel . main line is PE10 braid..no balloons used . I tend to find the polystyrene float works well .

Balloons I recently bought say biodegradable. I was assuming that makes them safer for animals but not sure how long it takes to degrade.

Just curious, why bother using a light mono line? Just attach the snap on the leader anyway. Attaching the snap to the leader kind of made the light mono line redundant really.

Magnets instead of a 6 pound line would be better, even less pollution
