I served 14 years, I have a pension from my civilian employer. I'm working still as a critical nurse and my net worth is 2.6M currently. I will keep working until my two sons finish college at which time I will be 60 and will probably reduce hours and semi-retire.

If you plan to join the military, be prepared to sacrifice some of your freedoms. You gotta take orders from someone not necessarily more qualified than you, just older. You need to be prepared to pack up and move where they tell you which is very difficult if you have a family. And if you have any moral or religious convictions that conflict with their authority, you can be dishonorably discharged and lose that pension and military benefits.

Great career, but not for everyone.

Good plan if you stick to it. But that Dodge Challenger Scatpack with 30% apr sure is cool 😎

Nursing, PA, Pharmacists, etc mid salary range providers, and even some primary care doctors, the military route definitely makes sense. You didn’t mention something else: Chaplains, social workers, psychologists, for those careers, being military officers definitely make way more than in the civilian world.
