You heard it from Mike, recovery at the strIp club because that's where you can relax the most.

Hi Russia! Finland here. You don't necessarily have to relax IN the sauna. You can absolutely do that at around 60-80°C, but at 80-95°C i am absolutely not relaxed, it is in fact very taxing! But i will be feeling relaxed for several hours after i leave the sauna. 😊

there's a lot more to it than that, even if you ignore the subsequent cold exposure, it liquifies the lymph and moves it along; it relaxes your muscles; it increases bloodflow via vasodilation; it increases core temperature which is good for the immune system and deloads it essentially.

I thought the scientific theory was; sauna or heat therapy increases blood flow throughout the body, increasing muscle recovery.
Particularly for joints/arthritis.

As a FInn, (In FInland sauna is common thing to do. the word sauna is the only Finnish word known around the world) I completely understand what he is saying. Sauna is supposed to be relaxing. If it's not relaxing and turns into an excercise/chore, for you, then don't do it. Do whatever makes you relaxed, as whatever you do to get your muscles relaxed and relieve stress. That is good for you. Go hug a tree - it's all plasebo.*

I do cold plunges and(or sauna, but not because I think it's somehow beneficial to me. I just feel good afterwards.
I would never force it, as I'd get stressed about forcing myself to sauna or cold water.

*there are studies, especially in finland about sauna. It's supposed to be food for the heart etc.. but in general science agrees ANY placebo/treatment "can reduce pain, improve mood, and even help manage cancer side effects."

You should never be embarrassed of your heritage, Dr. Mike. You should embrace it

Sauna has so many benefits tho, improves health in so many ways even prevents MANY MANY disease and such, aswell as possibly helping remove toxins and substance from your body amongst other things (detox).

So what if it’s a little too hot??

This is all assuming you don’t have health issues that prevents you from going to the sauna ofc.

My grandfather was more or less healthy up until he died at age 93. He always claimed the sauna was the reason he stayed that way. He and his buddies went every sunday at three o clock for 50 years straight. Always including a dip in the lake regardless of season. Mind you, this is in Sweden so it meant shoveling snow and cutting holes in the ice a couple of months each year. For the last five years he had to use the shower instead, not because he wanted to but because his doctor told him to. First thing i did after buying my own house was buiding a sauna, guess it runs deep in this family!

I go to the sauna 4 or 5 days a week, I never thought of it as recovery from exercise

I hate hot steam, I enjoy cold plunges that’s my “ahhh” moments. The feeling of your body cooling down like when you put a molten steal rod in oil and its cools down 🤤. That’s what I feel, I am the rod.

I’d sauna even if there was a chance it’s negatively affecting my recovery. Just love it and it’s mostly a mental exercise
