Welcome back to another Rapid Fire Critique. This time I critique a set from a photographer using a Nikon D7000 and the kit 18-140mm Lens. They are getting fantastic results with an older camera and a kit lens.

What did you think when you saw the photo of the kid hanging there on the train?

Thank you Jared for chosing my photos to be critiqued.

I always shoot in manual and i have my D7000 + 18-140 mm + 50 mm f/1.8 + speedlight gears for over 3.5 years, i can't upgrade beacuse at present, i can't afford a new one.
Also i am a self taught photographer and i haven't done any courses / trainings on this field, hope to do in future. I haven't learned post processing properly, that's why the photos might not well balanced in editing.
And yes, i also have suffered with focusing issues with my camera, and i still am suffering with it. Whatever the gear i use while photographing, even with my mobile camera, i always try to focus more on my vision and my perspective rather than the technical abilities of that gear.
The journey at the roof of train in Bangladesh is usually free, so it happens a lot and a common scenario in here. It almost a part of the culture here inspite of the high risk.

It is very inspiring to hear from an experienced photographer like you. The video will help and inspire me a lot to learn and practice photography. ❤

This is great. Proves it's about skill rather than pricey gear. Excellent.👌

In this video there will be 200 comments about how you don't need the gear with the highest specs.

The next EOS R video will have 200 comments about how you need the gear with the highest specs.

And most of these commenters probably barely ever actually go out and shoot photos.

I think my favourite was the cat, those greens and the long exposure gave a very haunting vibe. Great stuff!
Super happy to see another critique video again too!! 👍

Still shoot with my D7000. Never used kit lens as I had knowledgeable friends who helped me with selection as I had no idea. Great video and kudos to this photographer who submitted his work for review. Not easy to open yourself up to the possible criticism of the internet.

Jared, thanks again for swinging the pendulum back toward critiques and education and away from all the techno-buzz surrounding all the crazy body releases this year. I love to see your perspective on the art of photography. This video is another prime example of the gear you use is NOT what makes the photographer, it’s honing and developing the eye to see a beautiful shot when it lends an opportunity to you.

6:27 had the same experience I had 3 bodies none could hit a barn door with banjo for AF. micro adjustments didn't help major back focus. I gave up after returning 2 and trying to get one serviced. D7000 is a great camera with awful AF issues wouldn't go near it even at a bargain price

i have the d7000 and have the same issues with back focus or front focus when i have the focus mode in single point. Recently switched it to 3d focus and have found the back focus to not be an issue anymore. downfall of this is that i dont get to select the focus point but the 3d focus does a decent job of selecting the face/eyes .

I still got my D7000, though my kit lens broke, so I bought a 24-120 f4 as a replacement, and way to future proof myself when I upgrade to full frame. The camera is still going strong, and I love the constant aperature of the f4 lens.

Amen, I'm using a D5000 I got secondhand as a teenager and it still takes great pictures as long as I stay at very low ISO and nail my focus/exposure. It's been a great learning experience since I decided to pick it back up and really focus on getting better. A fancy new camera would be nice, but with this setup I'm forced to really experiment and try to nail my shots (composition, exposure, focus especially, and editing) or they just won't look good due to the limitations of my gear. Thankfully it came with some nice lenses, including an AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm which helps me make up for the lack of pixels (12.3MP) by cropping my photos 'optically' lol

It's more about your understanding of the technology and the art, and your vision for it that makes a good photo. (not that I can say mine are that great, but I'm taking new photos every day trying to get there)

I for one am a big fan of all of these shots as is, the creativity really shows and they have that spark. well done and he doesn't need those presets

Um... You know Jared that AF adjustments are for calibrating the camera with the lens, not just the lens. If the lens is fine, but the camera is off, then calibration will likely still help.

I use the 18-140 on a D7100, and have been relatively happy. For what it lacks in edge to edge sharpness, it makes up for it with great versatility.

You should give the presets to Ken Rockwell as a gift, rofl xD

It makes me happy and depressed at the same time these photographers critiques, their like "I like your photo" "the colour" etc, and the critiques are suggestions. But the critiques in the music industry... oh man don't make me even get started.

My D7000 also has a focusing issue on auto. Is this the same with the 7100 or 7200?

I still have my D700 with my 28mm f2 AI, my Tokina 20-35 f3.5-4.5 and my 70-210 f4-5.6 (Non D). People say 12 megapixels isn’t enough, but this is only a hobby for me, and I think the lenses I have right now are fine. What does everyone think?
