What you were showing in pictures is Hawkes Bay where I grew up and that is the main road, that takes you from the bottom of the Napier, Taupo highway (highway 5) past the Napier airport and the road you were showing is submerged takes you through to Taradale into Hastings. From friends and family back home 9000 people have been evacuated. The same number that lives permanently on Waiheke island. I hope that helps American viewers.

That was a painful interview to watch. Unfortunately the councillor from Auckland did not explain or emphasise the true impact this cyclone has had on the people in these rural areas of NZ as shown in the footage. For those who are not familiar with NZ, the cyclone absolutely decimated these areas. Vineyards, beef and dairy farms, orchards and so on, the main industries of this region completely lost. There is no access, no fuel, no electricity, limited food and hygiene supplies. Animals in the 100’s if not 1000’s have been killed. People have lost their loved ones, their livelihoods and their belongings. This is a very significant event in NZ’s history. Just to be clear.

Kia ora Aotearoa, my heart felt condolences to the families of those who have lost loved one's and on a whole to the many New Zealander's who have been affected by Hurricane Gabrielle, stand united, be strong, keep safe..."God defend New Zealand"... Every country who has been affected by tragic and catastrophic disaster's throughout the world are also going through it, but some on a larger scale and many lives have been lost... in hind sight im just truly grateful that not many lives in NZ were lost...Arohanui 💕💕💕

One family saw some mud fall and then heard a loud sound amd then ranout of their house onto their steps just as the house was destroyed by a land slip

And in Hawkes Bay unimaginable flooding so that they could only rescue people who made it on to their rooves

Honestly it wasn't just Auckland because I'm concerned about other ppl New Zealand wide so please consider everyone and not just Auckland or just the big cities okay

No disrespect towards the Auckland councilor, she did the best she could with the limited information she had, but it might have been better to interview one of the journalists from either of the 2 major networks here or someone high up in civil defence nationally to get a good overview of the damage sustained throughout the North Island from the cyclone.
