My Mk7.5 R has 15k miles on it and I absolutely love it. Bought beginning of this year and I have no regrets

Point of order on the Haldex issue... It is very rarely due to "lack of maintenance". I tune these cars daily and most of the ones I come across with rear drive issues have been serviced meticulously. VW don't specify a service interval for cleaning the filter on the pump head and the pump head itself can clog up well before the Haldex service is due. It would be unfair to accuse someone of negligence if simply following the VW service schedule.

Tip for HALDEX: If you do the haldex service and you are still not getting full traction. Try purging the air out of the pump through VCDS.

Fantastic video! My only point is that thermostat housing issues are widespread on these cars and are very expensive to repair.
When mine went on my Mk 7 GTI it cost about £950, although that was through a VW dealer though. Apart from the expensive repairs, these cars are fantastic! Keep up the great work.

As an APR, Stage 2 Golf R owner, I approve of this message. But I really dig the taj mahal marble on the garage floor.

Im so happy I got a good deal on a manual 2017 Golf R today. 57k miles on it but has some nice goodies on it with an ecs tune. All the goodies are nice parts like cts and ecs parts. Also got the 18 inch gti wheels instead of the r wheels which look a lot cleaner. Has coilovers as well and rides really nice.

Very good buying advice though you missed out one very important bit.
You need an extra pair of eyes to spot speed vans and overhead cameras! 😂😎

Take it this video is for young drivers.I do most my own work on my TTs and do a better job in my opinion.Last time VAG took my wheel of I got a clicking noise! Turns out they hadn’t tightened two of my wheel bolts 😱💀

I bought 7R, no leakage, good condition, no strange noises but after 3700km of driving I had spun rod bearing. Honestly, I'd more like to have water pump leak instead of spun rod bearing.
That was ended with fully forged engine, and about 6k euros less on my bank account.
Spun rod bearings on Golf R and Audi S3 is very often. In local repair shop there is three cars including mine at the same time with same issue - spun rod bearing! One Audi S3, completely destroyed engine, one Seat Leon Cupra with hole on the engine block and mine Golf R, which has least damage... In my case head, cams and turbo was in ideal condition because I didn't drove car with strange noises. It was towed to the repair shop.

I strongly suggest to every new owner to do preventive rod bearings change. It is less expensive than new engine. Also used engines are very expensive for that car.
On the other hand, car is very good to drive, not so problematic if we are exclude spun rod bearing issue. Most of this engines die from same issue before 200.000km. My guess is that rod bearings is not so good, also almost every used R has some tune and oil pan is flat on this cars, I suggest to change plastic oil pan with something more appropriate from aluminum. I recommend baffled oil pan to avoid oil starvation.

Hi. Thanks for video. Good to see some Scottish content :-) At 05:19 you mention the DSG selector issue and how this was very expensive and now not so much. Can you expand on what the fix is and the cost please (roughly)?

Hi mate I’ve been told not to buy a manual golf r because the crank shafts can go because of pressure on flywheel

Hello, good luck for your channel, from your experience, I can ask you something, I have a golf 7 2.0 tdi and my car, when it is in low rpm, feels a vibration like a tunnel or like a subwoofer, what do you think is something that I can fix? that doesn't make me feel comfortable
