If a Pharmacist makes $60 techs should make at least $20 not $12.50

Wages are ridiculous. Pharmacy tech should not be making the same pay as a fast food worker.

I’m a retired hospital pharmacy tech; my salary was $21k back in 2000 and I retired in 2021 making $62k.

I’m making 14 a hour, techs should be making at least 18-20 dollars starting out. It’s not the average stocking job it’s so much more important than just being a cashier

Pharmacy techs should make half of what the pharmacist make. We literally carry the pharmacy. The only thing we cant do is verify the prescription. I mean the computer will tell you if its right or wrong. Oh, drug interactions…. Its all on the computer. Not to mention we are allowed to give vaccines now. 😅

Pro tip: never go to retail and if you can, always fight for inpatient/hospital internships. Cause even if they’re not paid, they look good on your resume. And of course, don’t be scared!!!

I just joined walgreens at $16.50..no experience no certification. So was told once I'm fully trained on the job and obtain my certification it goes to $29 ( experince+certification). I guess it also depends on location.

I’m a tech, I started out at 14/hr that was back in 2011, I know make close to $31/hr. Experience and staying the pharmacy field goes a long way, it does start out rough but I’ve been it a long time and have so much experience I can get a job anywhere now

I've been at Walgreens for 8 years! Sr certified pharmacy technician. And i just now started making 21$ I'm mad af. Technicians are the backbone of the pharmacy. More often than not we are the ones teaching pharmacists things. We work with the customers. We fill prescriptions. We do certain vaccines. We maintain the order and inventory of pharmacy. The pharmacist shows up with a coat and a degree and do a few consultations and get all the credit...

I saw an ad that WaWa starting is 15. My old restaurant started dishwashers at 10. That's wild. As someone studying to take the ptce it's hard to stay motivated to learn all these silly drugs knowing how the system isn't really about cures and actual health. I was making 17 without school as a sushi chef.

They've tried as hard as they can to automate the skill out of the job instead of paying a wage that reflects the skill level it takes to do that job well. Pharmacists are great, and they do a lot--especially in a clinical setting. But it's still techs that make the wheels turn. Techs are the people that make sure the pharmacists can pay attention to the clinical stuff, and good techs make sure the clinical stuff is in order before the pharmacist gets to it. CVS and Walgreens have ACTIVELY been trying to destroy the profession of pharmacy for almost 2 decades now. This is just a symptom.

The pay DEF SUCKS!! It's sad that ppl that do not have any type of license get paid just as much or more than Techs! Techs need to get paid about $22 minimum.

It all comes down to location, and if you’re choosing retail vs inpatient setting. Makes all the difference!
Also PTCB may help at some places too.

I agree with you Im starting at $13 and the amount of work we are doing: taking care of patient questions, dealing with angry people, restocking, filling prescriptions, taking out trash, phone calls, labeling, deciphering whatever the doctor prescribed for their patients, etc. ALL AT ONCE. plus we only get a 30 minute break which is crazy. I'm doing a lot more multitasking and juggling than what my boss is doing but I would appreciate it if it was 18-20 dollars starting off. it is a difficult job and not for the weak and worth more than $12 an hour

I made $9.50/hr as a certified tech in the early 2000s 😭 horrible considering the education and responsibility that were required.. techs should definitely be paid (and respected) much more..
