Are Quest 3 Graphics Actually Better Than Quest 2?

Today let's talk about the Meta Quest 3 compared to the Quest 2. Are the graphics really that much better?

ambient occlusion, dynamic lightning, detailed normal maps, increased texture resolution, specular highlights/reflections. Definitely an upgrade. As well as hardware upgrading to pancake lenses, and increase resolution per eye

I honestly dont understand how people dont agree this is a massive jump in visual quality. I think its a bigger jump than from q1 to q2..im very impressed with what they are able to pull off with the xr2 gen 2

Red matter 2 on quest 3 appears to look almost as good as the psvr 2 version. Extremely impressive!

Definitely will be blown away from Q1 to Q3 …and from Q2 to Q3. I can say it’s an upgrade for sure. …and the software updates will make Q3 even better.

That definitely isn't contrast. It's improved materials, taking advantage of normal maps, and either specular or PBR rendering. Dynamic shadowing. These things make a huge difference, and are easy to implement if the GPU can handle the load, which apparently Quest 3 can.

Also have to keep in mind optimization later on will make the biggest difference. I mean look what they managed to squeeze out of the quest 2. And the quest team has made updates to resolution, refresh rate etc and I’ve never seen that with at least a hardware refresh. I hope they work their magic. I already preordered the 512. I do a lot of pc vr and the lenses are the sell for me and the WiFi 6e. Gonna have near cable connection experience on WiFi

The reason we see so much graphical improvement for quest 3 from quest 2 vs quest pro from quest 2 is because in addition to having more CPU power, the XR2 Gen 2 actually has a new GPU (unlike the XR2 Gen 1+ which was saddled with the old one) And of course, a GPU is all about enabling these graphical tools such as bump mapping, texture resolutions and whatnot :D

I pulled up Vader Immortal Ep. 3 on my Quest 2 this evening to replay as a reminder of what blew my mind ~3 years ago and see if it held up a bit... I was still in child-like awe during the part where the air skiff emerges from the tunnel revealing Vader's castle/landscape. I honestly can't wait to see what the 3 can make of scenes like that one.

I just played Pcvr Saints and sinners chapter 2 yesterday and the quest 3 looks closer to that than the quest 2 version, no doubt a massive leap in graphics!

The pics from quest2 never loook like what I see on the headset especially when I take a screen shot or vid the graphics look so much better. I can't wait for the new lenses

This applies only for standlone games available at meta store. For those who use it for pc vr, there is literally no difference both in visuals and in resolution. It depends on your steam vr and oculus debug tool settings.

I just wish that Meta could provide an exchange offer for those who already own Q2, for a quarter price discount or something.They could salvage and save on resource materials while keeping customers happy.

When the picture is very sharp like in real life, and the graphics looks like on high end PC computer, then I will buy it

I just got a used Q2 from a friend who upgraded to the Q3 at Christmas. It's got old graphics, but connecting it a PC that can handle even Low graphics setting in SteamVR still lets you play a little nicer looking games. I'm happy with it 🤷
