Alignment In Natural & Artificial Intelligence: Research Avenues | Nora Ammann | EAGxCambridge 2023

In this talk, Nora provides a brief introduction to AI alignment, followed by a discussion of how we might be able to illuminate and make progress on this problem by looking at how intelligent behaviour emerges and behaves in natural systems (e.g. evolutionary biology, neuro/cognitive science, complex systems studies, social/economic/political/legal theory, philosophy of science, linguistics, etc.). She provides arguments why this research program might or might not be promising, discusses how it fits into the larger AI alignment/safety space, and provides some examples of concrete avenues of research. This talk might be particularly interesting for those interested in working on AI alignment, and those who have a background in a domain studying intelligent behavior in biological or social systems.
