I'm so glad I had a history teacher that taught us more than the watered down sanitized history that's pushed in middle school and high school. Our history is full of atrocities and failures, we can only learn from them when we face them uncensored.

I'm glad your shedding light on the real history of Canada . Its confusing and infuriating that Canadian school systems would love to forget it ever happend. No pride in genocide

This is why I love Mysteries at the Museum, I learned about many of these events from watching that show.

I am Canadian and I am both embarrassed and disgusted by the Residential Schools, the school should have never existed in the first place but it has done nothing but create problems for both the Indigenous as well Canadian!

Nellie Blye was from Pittsburgh, and I'd hope that a good amount of people in the area are aware of it

It might not be as famous as it should be but I thought the Stonewall Riots were pretty well known

The Sultana disaster has stuck with me since middle school. It was in my American History textbook, but not the main part of the textbook. No, it was one of those little stories in the footnotes that no one ever reads and your teacher never mentions. It blew my mind! More deaths than the Titanic but was almost never in the news because other "more important" news stories were written. More important? Sure, the end of the Civil War and Lincoln's Assassination are both HUGE events but (in my mind) that shouldn't have lessened the importance of a the largest boat disaster in USA's history!
It fundamentally changed how I saw the world.

Before Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks, there was Elizabeth Jennings Graham whose insistence on riding a New York streetcar in 1854 led to its desegregation

I definitely remember both the Zimmerman Telegram and the Sultana disaster. I definitely confused American involvement in WW1 to be because of a DIFFERENT event, the Lusitania disaster... XD

Due respect to the horrible loss of life in the Sultana Event, but the Halifax Explosion of 1917 was even more spectacularly devastating. With 1, 782 deaths and massive damage. The anchor of one of the ships involved in the disaster, weighing 1000 lbs, was flung 3.2 kilometers away.
