Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise return to a planet that holds bad blood and poor history with the commander of the Enterprise. In today's episode we tackle the mystery of Rigel VII and why the Kalar have seemingly managed to allow Starfleet insignias to be etched into their castle bushes. We return to the planet that almost made Captain pike retire from Starfleet and pretty much everyone loses their memories... Let the forgetting commence! (All this and more so stay tuned).

I agree with you that this was a lackluster use of the backstory of Rigel 7.

That moment with the shield plate was pretty epic

Re: The 40+ minutes sound issues seems to be the show adding to the mystery and confusion of the crew. Kind of a sound effect to illustrate their plight. Imho of course.

I'm still coming down from watching the episode, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the Pike and (his GF, whose name is escaping me... Patel?) Open and close felt weird and stitched in. It might have even been better if we don't know about the charm until he's already on the planet and trying to recall. He says the same " someone i have to apologize to". Then the episode ends with him opening a channel to Patel where she relays the story of when she gave it to him, and he replies, "Yeah, I remember." Fade to stars.

Maybe it's because I'm not American, but I don't get why he was apologising so much to Patel, after all he only suggested they take a break.

Now I haven’t seen this episode, nor watched the series, but the Kaylar seem to be a disappointment. What little I’ve seen of them, they are not the big hairy brute with the overbite who roared like a beast from the original pilot.
