Our sun is an incredible fusion engine. From the surface of earth, we see it as a mere ball of light, but through amazing high-res imaging capabilities, we can observe real solar activities thanks to NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.

To think it is 93 million miles away and you can feel the heat it gives off!

Our star which we call the sun is beautifully fascinating. Knowing that it is just an average star within the billions and billions of stars in the galaxy we call the Milky Way is awesome. Further realizing that our galaxy is just an average spiral galaxy within 100s of billions of other galaxies is even more awesome. Knowledge of such things enhances our sense of being alive, even if it is only for a short time.

Crazy to think that there are stars out there that are millions and even billions times bigger than the sun.

I lived during a time when our planetarium had William Shatner describing the sun from our own Earth telescope view.  Now, we have two satellites orbiting our sun on both sides bringing us this spectacular reality I've dreamed of seeing in my life time.  How awesome is this?  Why, it gives me one more reason to love life.

Pretty interesting thinking that our sun is like a grain of sand and other stars are basketballs or even bigger when comparing size

It is amazing how we have these kind of things in our life

It's so powerful and full of energy, but it's so gentle and elegant felt from the earth.
I love every aspects of the Sun seen from the earth.

i was very fortunate enough to get the chance to look at the sun through a telescope, the guy that i was doing some work for makes special lenses for telescopes, amazing to see the surface and flares shooting out into space

It is wild that in order to even observe the surface through the blinding luminosity, one needs crazy light filters and robot eyes that can see invisible light.

Crazy to think how small we are compared to .. well everything in existence and once were gone the universe will still be the universe with or without us.

In the beginning he says "4 billion years, and will continue to for another 4" I sure hope he means 4 billion and not just 4.

1:15 - is that sped up? Because relative to the size of the sun, that would mean that it is moving super fast!

Simply amazing. What planet is passing by at 2:15?

That's right. The sun has a SURFACE. It's not a ball of gas with fusion at the core. It has a spectrum of condensed matter, not of gas. You can see the condensed material impact the surface after being ejected.

did you speed up this footage or is it in real time?  i am curious about the ejections coming from the surface and just how fast they are moving.
