This is so effective, it still makes me feel dread. I’m a huge horror fan and have been for 40 years. I’m desensitised to scares. But I swear The Omen is one of the few films that still frightens me after multiple viewings over many years. That’s very rare. Perhaps even unique.

After being commissioned to make the music, the composer looking for inspiration in old satanic book sent by the director saw a drawing of an inverted cross. He took this idea musically turning religious Georgian chant and Ave Maria, into an inverted mass, a black mass. The Choir master in London was an expert in Latin and helped the composer translate it Phrases such as the body of Christ became the Body of Satan, while keeping words such as we eat the flesh and drink the blood now inverted into something horrifying. Some of the Latin phases are wrong and Legend has it that this was done deliberately . This music is so chilling as it inverts some of the most well known Religious music and prayers, so it seems familiar but twisted. In eastern Europe some radical groups have tried to rerecord it with the correct Latin, to be used in ceremonies and even reported a failed attempt at a sacrifice of a run away girl in the early 80s. P. After wining the Oscar the composer Goldsmith thanked the director for sending him over the old books that inspired him to make the music. The Director Richard Donner looked at him puzzled and said I never sent you any books!

A lot of media call this masterpiece crap because of the wrong lyrics - the whole choir sings in incorrect latin. I always laugh at that because that is actually the main point of the whole idea of this theme. The lyrics are broken in order to insult the language of christian God, the way Satan would do. Mr Goldmith did an amazing job with this and yet a lot of critics still dont get it. Funny.

Watched this movie back on 1991 with 7 years, and I remember how this song gave me even more chills than the movie. It's an impressive and epic song that nowadays feels like the first day listened to 💜💜💜
