I love love languages and have always had an aptitude for learning languages. Linguistics seems wonderful, but I have a questions: do you actually learn languages?:)

Ok, big brain question. Let’s say that I have a sequence of letters, are there rules that I can use to tell definitively weather or not it is a word that can be pronounced? For example: “asdrain” isn’t a word but it could be, “agdvapm” could never be a word.
EDIT: I’m interested in doing this for an other language so I’m not looking for a series of rules that only apply to english but more for some good advice on what to search to find the info I need.

I am still confused so in a profetional setting where you need to know about many languages would you just get a gernal linguistics major or just take the language classes

all those sentences sounded pretty normal to me...
this is what i hear every single day.
i'm studying speech and language therapy.

after a while all the words will get shorter and shorter like alv. vel. den. lab. fri.
bro aph. glob aph. con aph. aaand i tend to just give up and record all the classes to avoid writing or typing the words.
