Steven Crowder's Fake Rumble Views

This was originally part of a much bigger video, but since it didn't quite fit in, I made it its own little video. It does get pretty technical in some parts, but hopefully it's not too confusing. It should also be considered a start into this kind of investigation, as I'm hoping people more experienced in this kind of content creation (streaming specifically) might be able to delve deeper into the shenanigans happening over on Rumble.

Backend software developer here. I’m not a fan of Rumble by any stretch, but it’s plausible that this isn’t malice, but a lack of sophistication. Counting views is much more complicated than it seems, there are multiple factors which make it technically quite difficult. The mechanism demonstrated in the video is one of the simplest (if it works like I suspect).

Historically, these right wing platforms have been fraught with technical issues, so this lack of attention to detail on their streaming platform is unsurprising.

After some careful thought, I realized it was silly to attach two very different videos together, even if the subject of Steven Crowder unites them. So instead we're getting two smaller videos instead. That's also why this one is coming out a few days earlier than usual.

I admire your dedication to this approach. I know a lot of people have speculated about Rumble numbers being inflated but this was just glorious. It's almost a bit tedious to watch in a way so I can't imagine how much time this took you.

But good on you Jose for this. It's more a take down of Rumble than Crowder, who frankly is such a joke now that he is more useful to prove this kind of broader point than simply to rebut Crowder himself.

Another explanation to consider for the decrease in engagement is also that Rumble mostly only has viewers from one side of the aisle. On YouTube, you expect engagement from one side, the other side, and a third source which is comment fights between the two. So three sources of engagement. On Rumble, I would imagine it's mostly all one sided, which removes 2/3rds of the engagement that was seen on YouTube. Of course it's not going to be exact and there's nuance, but I bet this does have an effect.
