you missed another factor. the push for reliability. 4 engines, 5 gearboxes for a season. 5 crashes and your in for big penaltys.

It's still stuck in the monza wall

Lack of Latifi, Sargent, Mazapin, Mick are probably helping.

Changing from 2023 to 2024 we also did not get any new rookies, so I guess this also would keep incidents down a bit.

The reverb in the Venturi tunnel was a very nice touch

I think there is another factor that changed for 2022 to consider - the race director.

It might have been intresting to look at red flags as well. I feel that in recent times more situations are red flagged instead and then restarted when safe instead of using a safety car.

Another reason the cost cap prevents crashes is that nobody is desperate enough for sponsors to hire Nikita Mazepin etc any more.

I wonder if the current generation of hybrids with self-starting electric motors also helps, reducing strandings after a stalled engine.

The Bathurst 1000 wrapped up today with only 1 SC. A total snoozefest that used to have upto 13 SC interventions.

The 2024 F1 grid is the most stacked in talent it's ever been. 3 world champs, 10 race winners (Daniel included), and a further 3 podium finishers (yes including Lance). Include the highly experienced Hulkenberg, Zhou who doesn't crash much, Tsunoda who is getting better each race, and Colapinto has shown himself as a quality driver. Crash prone drivers have all been wiped out. No Sargeant, Latifi, Schumacher, and Mazepin.

Maybe a sneakier reason is Red Flags replacing the Safety Car for really big crashes? Personally it seems that since 2020, when we had that crazy Monza race, the FIA has been more sensitive to throwing out a Red Flag and thus sometimes uses the Red Flag instead of the Safety Car for serious incidents when it's a 50/50 call. This might accumulate to one or two missed Safety Cars across a season, but that's not nothing.

Could be tin foil hattery, I'm just rambling here.

When the world needed him most, he dissapared

Logan Sargeant would help a lot with bringing the safety car back ( maybe also Stroll but we all know he aint crashing 😅)

why are repairs included in the cost cap at all? they're largely outside of team control

I'd love for this to be down to improved safety, or driving standards, but the chances it's more down to money and being more risk-averse are pretty high imo.

Found a channel where the person does your over analysis but in motogp, as long as you both keep it up, I am happy

Is it also worth pointing out, Mazepin and Latifi were replaced, the driver lineup is far more stable so fewer learning mistakes.

I swear to god I expected at 4:50 you’d introduce Michael Masi into our nightmares again! With him being above all unpredictable about how driving standards were to be enforced, I guess clearer rules mean drivers go over the edge less often.
