Follow up : It seems as though the main issue with losing COM in win 8.1 and win 10 is actually due to more recent releases of anti-virus software AVG and AVAST installed. When these were uninstalled PC-Link works as expected. The reason why PC_link worked on my Win 7 machine was because i was using a very old version of AVG on a very old PC. Setting exceptions or temporarily stopping the anti-virus did not help.

I don't see the problem with the capacitance range topping out at 100uF. Values that high are seldom critical. It's extremely useful for testing lower values as found in filters and timing circuits.

And they're down to around £12 now in UKland, so they're a massive bargain at that price!

The good thing about this meter is the realtime data logging feature on PC.. You would be hard pressed to find anything like this so cheap. I used it to monitor a power reset device and my freezer cooling profile.. etc.

Appreciate all the reviews Darren, I would like to see more flash back of the quality vintage multimeters from yesteryears. I feel like mutimeters hasn't changed much at all, same old designs and hardly any new innovations, perhaps more modular design is needed where you can swap and change, snap on attachments to perform diff functions.

Hi Darren, I am looking for a multimeter like that (especially USB PC link soft for repeated measures). What reference could you give me instead of BT-90EPC ? Thank you !

You forgot to mention that the PC-link software only works with Windows 7. The thermocouple temperature reading in the lower -15 C range is off by about +5 C.

Hate to hear "HP" instead of "Hold Peak". People might confuse with Hewlett Packard. Even if not, still bugs me.

Has anyone used the PC link software for this multimeter on Linux?

Out of all of these meters you have tested which one is the one to go to under 50 dollars?

This is the imitation of Holdpeak 90-EPC

Seems like the USB function and software are the best part of this rig, but the connection interface and blocky cover on the meter are really huge and oversize for whats actually needed, ugly in fact. One would would also think in a $50 meter with USB capability it wouldnt be hard to include a reasonable diode test function with enough voltage to light a diode, and what I didnt see shown is if it worked on the regular diode test. Almost no point in even including such a small capacitance range, as you said for what this meter cost it misses its mark in too many areas to be considered a good value especially at $50. I really dont see why they cant include F* as well as C*, I know many prefer C* but F* is still relevant for many of us that were raised with it in the US. I always like the resettable milliamp fuse, should have been standard long ago as its so easy to blow such a small fuse and they always seem to use some odd hard to find size and value, the poly fuse eliminates all that hassle. For this price there are many better meter choices on the market and some for less money.

Nice review. That's too bad, I like some of BT's other multi-meters. The USB feature is nice to have, but I rarely use it.
