If you've never had a mammogram before, you'll want to know when you get your results.

If your mammogram was part of breast screening or cancer follow-up, it can take 2-3 weeks. This is because each mammogram is looked at by two people on two separate occasions to improve the accuracy of the report.

If you had your mammogram in a symptomatic breast clinic, you should get your result in real time, in other words, on the same day. This means that if there is something suspicious, you can have an ultrasound, and a biopsy if needed, all in the same clinic visit

I'm Dr Liz O'Riordan. I'm a breast surgeon who's had breast cancer and the author of The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer.
