I like that possible connection to "feeder". That's quite a satisfying theory.
It's cool how people don't come out of the woodworks to tell you those sorts of similarities are meaningless when you have respected credentials. It makes me want to go out and get myself some of those. Formal education was always such fun but it never helped me pay the bills, as you know. 😢

I think of the verb "fæða" both meening to feed and to give birth.
