【Pls look at the top comment first】The first acoustic verse and chorus of this song last about one minute and twenty seconds, but it is not an acoustic song. From 01:21, get ready to hear the flaming passion by 1980s Liverpool rock icon Export. It will hit everybody in the heart.
Back to the early to mid 1980s, Export was a memorable name, which is rarely mentioned today. But in history, the active years of Export symbolized those years featuring old-school hard rock and old-school melodic rock booming. In both UK and USA, old-school taste in rock music was spread in the early to mid 1980s, which lots of notable bands' early music works featured. Export was a distinctive band, whose music works more or less featured some classic hard, rock and old-school aor taste. Their albums are underrated andprecious. Even in history, Export was also an underrated name.
From the line-up of Export, I think loyal aor fans must find that the band included a notable musician. He is Steve Morris, the core member of Heartland and Shadowman. As we know, Steve Morris has done great contributions to Heartland since Heartland's third album with Chris Ousey. In Shadownman, he's also a vital role on guitars and producing.
Export was formed in liverpool, the hometown of The Beatles. From 1980 to 1985, the band recorded three studio albums. In 1980, Export recorded their self-titled and self-produced debut, including eight songs. In that year, Export didn't have the record deal, so their debut was released by their own label "His Master's Vice" independently. They tried the distinctive arrangements on hard rock initially.
After winning the locally prestigious Battle Of The Bands contest run by legendary Liverpool DJ Phil Easton, Export had an opportunity to sign a record contract with Epic Records, making their second album "Contraband" released in North America. Since the second album, Export had walked out of hometown, who started to try more tuneful creations and let more American fans hear their music essence.
During those years, numerous epic albums by American bands and solo artists came out on the music scene. To stand out and spread widely was not an easy job for a band from overseas, but Export had done their best. Compared to their simple debut, their following two albums truly came out with more progress in creation and production, making Export get closer to an aor band and finally become an aor band.
Steve Morris was the major creator of Export. In general, Export can be considered as the formal starting point of Steve Morris's career though his music activities started earlier but his earliest music activities were never mentioned. Since he played and wrote songs in Export, his influential position as an all-around musician on the music scene has been attracted by more public attention.
This album "Living In The Fear Of The Private Eye" was recorded in the late 1985 and was released in 1986. Steve Morris created the majority of the songs on his own and with Max Bacon and Bob Halligan Jr. except one song "You Make Me Wanna" written by the band's bassist Chris Alderman. The album was produced by legendary Lance Quinn. Lots of aor elements were added, featuring more 1980s synth sounds and harmonics.
The album includes the flaming opening "Living In The Fear Of The Private Eye", the old-school oriented aor gems "No Escape" & "Runnin' Back (For More)", the magic ballads "Airwaves" & "Summer Nights", the energetic tunes "You Make Me Wanna" & "Tear Me Apart", the melodic hard rock ending "Can't Say No" and this ingenious creation "Closer To You".
In 2010, the second and the third albums of Export was re-released by UK label Rock Candy. That is to say, "Contraband (1984)" and this epic "Living In The Fear Of The Private Eye (1986)" can arouse people's sense of nostalgia, which should never be forgotten. The works from Export are filled with Steve Morris's dedication. Check them out along with the songs with his peformance in Heartland, Gillan, Shadowman and his newest band Lonerider.
