How to Create Variables in SPSS – SPSS for Beginners (2-5)

The first step to doing an analysis in SPSS is having your variables set up properly. We are going to begin with a blank dataset, create five variables, and then learn how to set up numeric variables. You will learn about naming variables, variable labels, and coding values for categorical variables.

Hello, I have tried to extend the column width in the Values column in SPSS Variable View and it still doesn't display all the information. Is there any way to make sure the entire contents of the Values columns are visible? Thank you.

In my study I obtained basic demographic information but also wanted to know past medical history. I made a varible column and named it “history” then in the name section I made it 0-10 (0 being no history, 1 hypertension, 2 diabetes and so on). What do I do if a subject has more than one past medical history? For instance one has hypertension and diabetes. Do I need additional variables for each?
