Let's get practical with the runes! In this new video in my rune series I'm diving into how you can use the runes in magick. I'm going into literary and archaeological sources for runic magick, how to create rune formulas and bind runes and lastly how to charge your runic talismans.
Hopefully this video will give you a good head start into how to use the runes in spellwork.

My channel is all about witchcraft, norse paganism and spirituality in general. If you're curious about my upcoming videos, make sure to subscribe!

Hi Bente, don't be sad about the rune series not getting as much attention as it deserves. I promise you that some people like me will come back to the series again and again. You helped me so much with this. ❤️ Thank you. 🌈

Here is my method for activating the runes if anyone is interested in it. Again, this is my way and it isn’t the “right” way; however, it does work for me.

First I have a candle that is lit (representing Muspelheim) and a cup of ice (representing Niflheim).

This represents the creation of the universe when Muspelheim and Niflheim came together and formed Ymir, the ancestor of all, essential the creation of life.

I take one rune at a time and pass that rune through the candle (Muspelheim) and through the ice (Niflheim), signifying the creation of life and the rune being born into existence.

Then I chant the rune 9 times. 9 signifying the 9 days and 9 nights that Odin hung himself to gain the knowledge and wisdom of the runes. Hence me chanting the rune 9 times is allowing me to receive the wisdom and knowledge of that specific rune as well.

Then I take my blood and outline the rune with its respective symbol. My blood represents the blood that Odin shed from piercing himself with gungnir (his spear).

Once that is done, I blow into the rune to solidify the life of the rune. My breathe represents the breathe that Oðinn, Hœnir, and Lóðurr (Vili and Ve) gave to askr and embla. I feel this is important since it’s how humans were created.

I then put that rune in my linen pouch and repeat the process for all 24 runes.

Tips:
If you want to use your blood but don’t want to cut yourself with a ceremonial knife, you can always use a diabetic pen on your finger tips. Won’t leave a scar and still able to sacrifice your blood for the runes.

Also I have 3 other candles around that represent the 3 Norns (Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld) so the Norns can bare witness to my ritual/ceremony and weave my fate and intertwine my life with the runes.

When casting the runes, I will always light up 3 candles for the Norns so they can guide my reading and have influence on my rune casting (although if I am doing a single rune reading with only one rune, I won’t light the 3 candles since the runes and I are already connected to each other). Only when I am casting more than a single rune will I light the 3 candles.

Also my personal recommendation is to get runes that come from something that used to be alive such as a tree or bones. I found that working with runes painted on rocks and inanimate objects don’t hold life/energy to them.

I will say if you get a new set of runes and want to get rid of the old set, do not throw the old ones in the trash. Respect them in death as you did in life. Bury them, cast them into the ocean, or burn them. You can ask the runes how they want to be laid to rest by randomly choosing a rune from your pouch as each rune is associated with one of the 4 elements.

Lastly, I would not perform this ritual until you understand each and every single rune, from their names and their deepest meanings. Do extensive research, might take a month or two but it is very important you understand every rune before performing this ritual.

Again this is how I do my rune readings and how I activate them. It isn’t the right or wrong way, but it has worked tremendously for me. It can be time consuming, but brings so much value to the connection you have with the runes and solidifies the bond between you and your runes (at least for me).

Hope you all enjoyed!! 🍻

❤For anyone who is uncomfortable spilling blood for their bind rune, the method I use that Bente didn't mention is using my pulse to charge the piece.

I have an amulet that I had carved from a piece of pine, over a year ago (way before discovering this amazing channel), and after fire aging it with a blowtorch, sanding and varnishing it, I added protection oil and squeezed it lightly in my hand so as to feel my pulse coursing through my amulet. In this way, while focusing on my intentions of protection and reaction, I fed my life giving energy into the talisman to charge it with a goal.

This also is a quick and painless way to recharge an amulet after a turbulent period or event, much like one would rub a worry stone or count prayer beads. It seems to have worked really well for me, and I gladly share it with this community. I hope that this helps?

I'm pretty practiced at sigils but I didn't realise that bind runes are so similar to create. The way you've shown your process on paper is really easy to understand. Over the past few months you may have become my favourite youtube channel. Thanks Bente 💚

This is the best video I have seen on practical magic in months. I love your methodology and I’m pleased to hear the breath charging method does have some kind of mythological backing. I have used breath charging for my own rune work for a long time but it was more of a guess of what I could use instead of blood. Thank you very much for sharing.

Okay so I stumbled upon this randomly but I'm a fantasy author and this is so cool. I need to write about magic in my story that works in a similar way. I'll try to treat the topic and the runes with respect, I am a practicioner of a different kind. Just wanted to say thanks for making this and I love your vibe ✨️

Thanks for the video. It gave me an idea. I’m going to carve some affirmations into wooden mixing spoons and use them in kitchen magic. I’m thinking one for health and one for harmony.

This series is amazing! I’m watching it all out of order, but I’m loving it.
I feel so much more strongly drawn to runes than Tarot, which was my main reason for starting to watch, but I love all the other topics you cover.

Another great video lesson. Thank you so much. Question: Is it possible to build a bind rune that unintentionally does the opposite of what you want or causes harm by adding an unintentional rune that goes unnoticed? Hope this makes sense.

I often use runes as a meditation and manifestation practice by carving the runes i want to use onto a wooden stick and then using the stick to trace the runes in the air as I chant the names of the runes out loud. To charge the runes, I burn them into the wood with a torch and then quench them in water. I also incorporate smoking into a lot of my magical practices, so to finish off the activation process, i smoke a little and blow the smoke onto the runes. Once the rune stick (rune wand) is charged, it is ready to use in the meditation practice I mentioned above.
