2024 has been a turbulent year for Carlos Sainz.

It started with a shock: Lewis Hamilton would be replacing him at Ferrari in 2025. Then he missed a race with appendicitis. But the year is ending with multiple wins and podiums to look back on, and an exciting new challenge to look forward to with Williams next season.

Speaking to Tom Clarkson, Carlos talks about his feelings after finding out Hamilton was taking his seat, the pain he suffered after his operation and how he came back from those physical and emotional setbacks to take victories in Australia and Mexico, and secure his future in Formula 1.

As well as reflecting on a special four years with Ferrari, Sainz is also relishing his next chapter. What can he achieve with Williams? How does he rate new teammate Alex Albon? And will he cope with not fighting at the front of the grid?

What's not to like about Carlos? So honest, so serious, not trying to appeal to any kind of public, being proud and humble where he should (imho). That is a big man right there.

This guy is the epitome of a true Ferrari driver: intelligent, sophisticated, passionate, aspirational. Basically James Bond in an F1 car. They are crazy to let him go.

Carlos has the kind of transparency, class and optimism while being respectfully honest, is hard to find in any human being. For me, it doesn’t matter, if he goes to williams or stays at Ferrari; i will support him through and through. I have no doubt he will rise again and shine brighter.

I always thought Carlos was one of, if not the most, Smarter driver on the field. By listening to him speak now, I get the feeling that we are seeing the Backstory of the greatest F1 principal of all time when he retires from Racing himself! What a strong mind, knowledge and eloquency this guy have!

Very insightful man. Honestly can see him back at ferrari again. I also can see him in a managerial role post racing career. Just says the right things and that's not a skill that anybody has

Carlos is the injection any team need...Williams can be honoured. Carlos is a world class F1 racer. Ferrari will realize in the future they lost a legend. Personally, I would love Carlos next to Max

Mr. Sainz is a very underrated driver. love his track tactics. keen that! that he improves every team he comes into, says that he is a technical driver, a great communicator with his engineers, and brings a brush of intellect to the game. i'm looking forward to see how he morphs the Williams car to the podium field.
