I'd still go for the 8700k. The 9900k shows that Intel has reached the limit of the ring bus architecture. It's far too inefficient for a slight core speed bump and a couple of extra cores. The 8700k is still a great choice, both for gaming and for productivity.

I delidded my 8700K and am stable at 5.1ghz, run 65c rendering video max, couldn't be happier! Delidding was key. I use a Noctua DH-15S air cooler

-Too expensive for its plattform
-Too hot for its platform
-Basically a workstation CPU on z390

the 8700k + liquid metal+ delid kit + NDH15 Is still cheaper than a 9900k in europe

I’d you’re buying now, the 9700K is the best all rounder. If you already have an 8700K and expected a real upgrade this year I’m not sure what you’re smoking. Not sure why people expect real upgrade solutions year over year. Just enjoy the 8700K you got last year and be happy it will be a great performer for a few years to come.

I ended up going with a 9700K which I have overclocked to 5.1 Ghz in an Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard and it is running well.

I9 9900k @5.2 Ghz 1.3v - 1.344v LLC2 on a MSI MEG GODLIKE Here.. Benchmarks temps - 80's, gaming high 60's low 70's.. I did delid it when I first got it, sanded it down and added liquid metal 👍 I'm on a EK custom hard loop 360 Rad set up. Great vid as always 🙌

This whole year from Intel and NVIDIA is a bust for me .

This is the First yeah I haven't upgraded to the absolute latest and greatest over priced heater and a failing gfx card .
