Jimmy sang songs that soothe my soul. You need to listen to more. “Son of a Son of a Sailor”, “A Pirate Looks At 40”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes”, “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, or “Fins” are all classics. I love his lesser known gems like “The Great Filling Station Holdup” or “Peanut Butter Conspiracy” too. If you want the best way to experience his music find live concerts. They were like a beach party and were so much fun. I saw him live one time and it was only a couple of years before he passed away. It’s one of my favorite memories of all time and I’ll never forget it.

I just love it when you say “never heard of him, never heard this song before in my life” and it turns out to be one of the most iconic songs and artists in ‘merica. It just blesses my southern heart. 😆

Jimmy Buffett is a singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as “Son Of Son Of A Sailor”, “Fins”, “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “One Particular Harbor”, "Come Monday", “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.

"was that a real place?" geographically, no - its a metaphor for his drinking, BUT, after this song hit it big, he made it his brand and there are tropical themed restaurants and a casino named Margaritaville in various parts of the US.. he owns it all. If something has "Margaritville" on it, he owns it. He's the king and original creator of the "Island music" genre.

RIP Jimmy (Sept. 1, 2023)

I love how the further into his drunkenness he gets the more responsibility he takes for his actions.

When asked where is Margaritaville, Jimmy's answer was "Where ever the hell you want it to be."

Saw JB and the Coral Reefer Band probably 15-16 times over the years. Absolute great songs and great atmosphere to see live. The world will sadly miss this nautical troubadour.

There's a whole slew of Margaritaville resorts and restaurants now.

This song title is the most profitable song title ever. With its musical success, it merchandising success (Still successful today) to a very popular chain of restaurants with the same name that brings in between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars per year and still going. Jimmy Buffet is believed to be the 13 wealthiest celebrity with a net worth of 550 million dollars. He is an American Icon, loved by millions world wide.

margaritaville is a state of mind when you use booze to make yourself deal with your life and the things you have done to put you in this place in your life and as he drinks more he becomes more honest with himself that is he was to blame for his troubles

Jimmy: Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Audience: Where's the salt? Where's the God damned salt?
RIP Jimmy. Coolest dude on the planet.

When he wrote it, Margaritaville was more a metaphor for any of the Florida beach communities. Now he has a chain of restaurants bearing the same name. While it's true much of his commercial success was in the 70s and 80s, don't overlook the very solid album "Fruitcakes" from the 90s - "Six String Music" and his cover of "Uncle John's Band" are outstanding.

The two penultimate “beach vacation groups “ in the US would be The Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett.
