@bimmeraddict21 It is a BBS Motorsports BMW GT4 RE Race wheel. Required a good amount of finesse. Fortunately, no body work.

Nice car! Are all these extras a part of BMW's performance package (similar to the once you get for the 3- and 5-series) ?:)

@Eisenmannusa So just to be clear, this is the "Race" sound option and not the "Sport" option, right? I can't seem to find a video showcasing the Sport version. Do you have decibel numbers comparing the two?

How did you launch it like that on the 35i? Step on brake and gas pedals at the same time then let go of the brake?

MrFunk - It's a dual-clutch, not an auto. There is a big difference. No torque converter, for starters. I thought the same as you until I drove one. That's coming from someone who's driven nothing but manual since he was 13. Amongst all of those cars has been one of the purest cars on the road - a Lotus Elise. And, for what it's worth, some of the Lotus guys replaced their manual with a sequential box and the new Evora and new Exige S roadster even offer autoboxes - google Fifth Gear Exige S and see that Vicki Butler-Henderson (I think that's her name) was nearly able to match an F1 driver's time (Karthikeyian? - I probably butchered that)) BTW, I also own one of these - it's far better than you think and I never drive it in auto.

Other than clutch modulation the only thing you lose is the time where no torque is being fed to the rear axle with every shift of a manual transmission, which makes this car a few ticks faster than one you row yourself - you cannot shift faster by your lonesome, considering the next gear is already engaged. Plus, (other than modulating the clutch, which is mostly 1st and R) you have pretty much every bit as much control as a stick.

Plus, bear in mind that most of the fastest cars in the world don't even offer stick anymore. Ferrari, for instance; even Porsche, on the new 911 GT3 (about as racy as your going to get) and 911 Turbo S (few cars accelerate as quickly), only offer PDK. And then there's Formula One... They seem to do just fine considering the clutch is on the steering wheel and only used in the pits.

I love a manual as much or more than the next guy, but I have driven a car with DCT for more than a couple of miles and I can appreciate it for what it is. Sadly, knowing what I know, I would say It's only a matter of time until the manual is gone.

It used to be a manual was faster AND gave better fuel mileage - used to be. New DCTs and some autos have flipped the script. Why would a manufacturer spend money on tooling and such to equip maybe 10% of its cars with a manual when a dual-clutch is an acceptable compromise? Look at Ferrari and Porsche and there's your answer. Just my $0.02 - and maybe a little more.

Where did you get the hub rings and/or spacers to run these wheels? I know that the wheels don't fit onto the normal BMW hubs without rings and I am picking up a set of these wheels and need hub rings asap!
