I am confused isn't 

ACE = E[ S_{1i} - S_{0i} | J = 1] 

actually the ACT. Do we not need also

E [S_{1i} - S_{0i} | J = 0].

To truly have the ACE. Is it that in theory the ACE is the same across these two groups?
