Raising Kids in a Big City

Should you raise your kids in a big city? I briefly go over the disadvantages and benefits of living in a walkable city compared to the suburbs or a small town.

Then I go house hunting for some real estate in Chicago and Seattle with a budget of $750k.

I found a great home near Lake View in Chicago. Close to Wrigley Field and Lake Michigan.

Chicago just might be the best value city in America. It is very a bikeable and walkable city.

I found a cool house in Beacon Hill near Jefferson Park in Seattle. Only 3 miles from T Mobile Park.

Seattle is very expensive for a reason. Seattle has mild weather and is so beautiful and green. Building more dense housing would do wonders for affordability. There are several great walkable neighborhoods in Seattle like Capitol Hill or Ballard.

Of course you should raise your children in a big city, this shouldn’t even be a question!!

In a big city, the children have more access to extracurricular activities, can interact with many different types of people & will always have the independence of being able to go wherever they want without needing their parents to drive them around for every little errand.

Kids who’re raised in big cities tend to be more cultured, knowledgeable about the world & have more economic & social opportunities once they reach adulthood.

i mean, i don't consider a small yard to be a downside. A big yard is nothing but work if there aren't other kids your age to play with in the neighborhood. And once you get old enough, even an above average yard can start to feel small anyway. I'd have much rather been in an apartment or townhome with no yard that was walking distance to a large (or even average sized) park.

Less gossip in the city? 🤔 I think there might be a joke there I'm missing 🙃
